Here is my submission for the adidas Fingerpainting contest.[link]
I really did my homework on this one. I was in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee a few weeks ago and decided to stop at the adidas store at the Tanger Outlet. I went to the shoes section and started taking notes. I particularly liked the Rod Laver, Ciero, and Forum soles and wrote them down. Green, white, red, and blue were four colors that I saw all around the store. And since this is for the adidas store it made sense to use them. The adidas logo worked out well, making up for what the Ciero lacked in blue. I also like the small trefoil in the Ciero's heel. The mosaic background is supposed to be a sidewalk that could be placed in any location of the world. Big city, small town, Europe, America, etc. The grey shelves in the store gave me the idea of a non-white background. The trefoil logo can be seen at the bottom and the other three-striped adidas logo can be seen at the top. I wanted to work them together in the same piece and I'm very satisfied with the way it turned out. It looks like someone really used their fingers to paint it. Picture is a perfect 9:16 aspect ratio. Can be turned sideways to be a perfect 16:9 widescreen.
I also spent a good amount of time on the adidas Originals website [link]
watching the videos and thinking of what Originality really meant. I was looking through other artists' submissions and was thinking, "None of this really gives me any ideas." That's when I decided that there was a reason for that. From start to finish I didn't look at any other submissions than the few I had seen. I didn't want another work to influence mine. The Name is obviously from the mix of the words "soul" and "sole." The soul being the most original part of a person and the sole being the base for the original product that Adi Dassler began making in his shoe shop.
So here is my finger-painting. Please comment/
